Long Overdue Update

Justin's recovery from his traumatic brain injury continues everyday (sorry that it's been almost a year since the last post). Patients with TBI continue to improve their functioning two years or longer following their injury. The problems and challenges Justin faces everyday relate to comprehension, language, judgement and mood. Justin continues work towards the completion of his degree at U of A. Disability Resource Center, SALT (Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques Center), Vocational Rehab and the U of A Aphasia Program have offered him academic support along the way and we are grateful for these resources and assistance. Justin spends most of his day in classes, preparing and studying. He also tries to keep himself in good physical shape by going to the gym and practicing yoga as well as eating healthy and getting enough sleep. Sadly, what's missing in his day is friends and fun. We have continued to remain positive in this blog and keep our hopes alive for Justin but the reality of Justin's challenges (perceptual deficits, difficulty in social communication and self awareness) can sometimes chip away at the hopes and dreams we have for Justin.

Since the last blog entry, Justin appeared before a judge and received some disability benefits. In December, Justin had a setback which required an emergency room visit and many follow-up EEG tests. On the bright side, Justin passed his first four classes in the Eller School of Management at the U of A. Congratulations Justin on your continued recovery path!
